What are the common harms of alcohol abuse? A look at both physical health and family impact

Physical Level

Long-term heavy drinking may affect the liver, pancreas, gastrointestinal tract, heart, and nutritional status; when stopping drinking, withdrawal reactions such as hand tremors, insomnia, and palpitations may also occur.

Mental and Behavioral

Mood swings, anxiety and depression, decreased memory and attention, concealing drinking, and impaired role functioning are all signals that require attention.

Family and Safety

Escalating conflicts, drunk driving/falls, financial strain, and breakdown of intimate relationships are often perceived by family members earlier than "how much one drinks."
